Notification Issues.
What are Background Notifications?
Background notifications are an alternate way to receive push notifications. There are pros and cons to turning this feature on. There are also specific requirements for it to function properly. It is important to weigh the pros and cons before turning this feature on.
Pros:
- Adds support for Follows, Quotes, and user Tweet notifications. You can enable user Tweet notifications from someone’s profile.
- These notifications will respect mute filters.
Cons:
- May increase battery/network usage.
- Force quitting the app will stop it from functioning.
Other things to know:
- We don’t have control over timing. It is controlled by iOS and based on how much you use the app/device and it varies throughout the day. Generally during periods of regular usage, it should check around every 10 minutes. During times of low usage, every 15-60 minutes.
- You won’t receive background notifications when low power mode is on.
- Background App Refresh needs to be on and enabled for Tweetbot. This setting is in iOS Settings > General > Background App Refresh.
Why are notifications delayed?
Currently, Twitter doesn’t provide a notification system for developers so our servers have to check for replies and DMs every few minutes. Twitter also limits how often we can search the API every 15 minutes so we are unable to check more often.
