Questions & Answers
- What about Ivory? Are you leaving Mastodon?
- Of course not! Mastodon is our home on the social web and we will continue to invest our time there. Since the incredible growth of Bluesky in the past year, our customer base has become split between the two services and for us to continue to thrive as a company, we must support both. Unfortunately, we can’t survive on Mastodon alone.
- Why two different clients? Why not one that supports both?
- While there may be some conveniences of an app that supports multiple social media protocols, we believe the experience will be much better overall if we keep them separate. We do plan to provide a way to cross-post between them so you don’t have to write duplicate posts.
- Does that mean development slows or stops on Ivory?
- We are a small team of 2 developers and 1 designer. It would be a lie if we said Ivory would be in full development while we are trying to get Phoenix up and running. However, we did not want to start Phoenix development until after we released Ivory v2.3. Once Phoenix is out the door, development will happen concurrently and both apps will get all the huge improvements we have planned throughout the apps. And we still have a huge list of great improvements that need to come to Ivory (and as a result, also Phoenix).
- When will Phoenix be released?
- Our goal is sometime in the summer. We will open a limited public alpha as soon as we can.
- How can we continue to support you in the meantime?
- All we can ask is that you continue to invest in Mastodon and in Ivory. As mentioned above, Mastodon is our home base and we believe in ActivityPub as the future of the social web. We just hope it can continue to grow.
