Weightbot and Convertbot 1.4

Weightbot 1.4 is now available on the iTunes App Store and Convertbot 1.4 will be available within a few weeks. Read on to find out what’s new.

Weightbot 1.4

So what’s new? Not much on the outside. OS 3.0 has enabled us to re-engineer the date and weight select scroll views so that they behave as they should. You can now scroll faster and enter weight data back 10 years. We’ve also added a few tap gestures to make things a bit easier. Double-tapping each end of the date view will quickly scroll you forward or back 30 days. Single-tapping the weight-select view will move you one-tenth of a number while double-tapping will move you to the nearest whole number. And that’s pretty much it for this Weightbot update. Remember, this update requires OS 3.0.

We also wanted to quickly mention that the updated graph views are still in the works.

Convertbot 1.4

Convertbot 1.4 is in its final stages of development. Here’s what’s new:

Calculator

We’ve gotten a few requests for the ability to do calculations in Convertbot so we added a simple calculator. We made this optional so if you don’t need this feature, you can still have the simple number pad. It’s disabled by default. As you can see in the screenshot, we had to make slight UI changes to the number pad for consistency.

Calculator

(Click the image to view the full interface.)

Copy and Paste

You can now copy and paste numbers in Convertbot. To access this menu, just hold down the LCD for a second.

Copy/Paste and Settings

(Click the image to view the full interface.)

Other Options

Aside from the ability to enable/disable the new calculator, we’ve added 2 more options that may be useful to you. The first option is the ability to disable the automatic currency updater. This has been requested by many international travelers in order to conserve data consumption. We’ve also added the ability to limit decimal places for your conversion results.

A few new units will be added, but the final list hasn’t been determined yet. This next release of Convertbot will also be OS 3.0+ only. It should be submitted to Apple in about week or so.

Regarding Weightbots It would be useful If you could add another statistic that says how much you lost in the previous 30 days or something like that.

I just wanted to say that I really love Weightbot and was wondering if by “updated graph views” you mean multi-month views. If so, I’m looking forward to it!

It’s a shame that you can’t remove any of the default apps on the iPhone because the new calculations feature in ConvertBot pretty much makes the Calculator app useless for me.

Nice work as always, fellas. Can’t wait for the next Tapbots app, regardless of what it is.

@Thomas

We are working on making it as useful for people as possible. Can’t say much more than that right now. You can view multiple months right now by double-tapping the graph. There are 3 graph views (week, month, year).

The eye-candy on this is just simply divine. I would buy it all again just for the look and feel.

Hi guys – thanks for making these great apps even more awesome :)

One feature suggestion for Convertbot: I’m constantly clearing the number slate when performing new conversions, and at the moment I have to press the red back arrow for a second before entering a new conversion.

Would it be possible to either:
a) make the unused left button a quick single tap “clear all” button, or alternatively
b) provide the option to clear the numbers automatically (either when changing the type of conversion, or between every conversion)

As someone who lives overseas as an expat and has been on a fitness kick for the past year, both of your applications are absolutely invaluable – and are a joy to use!

While I like Convertbot, it’s really missing some very basic, practical cooking conversionsfor instance: How many grams in a US teaspoon? Not milliliters – grams. When I have to measure out dry yeast onto a scale, it’s grams. I’ve requested this before & have communicated with the Tapbots folks on this. Also, you have to jump around in fluid measures, dry measures, temperatures – when a simple Cooking section would be perfect. Basically this app is just useless or frustrating for cooking/baking purposes.

@Jim

The big problem with your request is that you want to mix units that have no direct relationship. You can’t compare mass with volume. How many grams are in a US teaspoon? That depends on the ingredient (which is another variable completely).

When are you going to put Weightbot on sale? :)

@Mark I guess none of you are bakers. The problem is Mark that while it makes no mathematical sense, it’s done daily by possibly thousands of people. It’s not optimal but necessary – usually this a dry measure, but any good converter website also has conversions for wet as well.

@Jim

We are aware of its usefulness to be categorized together, but our current system doesn’t allow for something like that. At this point, it is a technical limitation. And to allow a 3rd user-selectable variable (salt, sugar, flower, etc), it would require a overhauled UI and I’m not sure it’s something worth doing just for 1 category. It’s just one of the sacrifices we have to make for the sake of keeping it simple.

I can’t believe I just got your convertbot app for free!!! Love your products. I use the weight app. everyday. I love the predictive part of the graph and the stats. And putting on weight is kinda ok when you get that rewarding sound effect… mmm… futuristic-sounding-sound-effect…

I support you reasoning for not having a “cooking” section. I always find convert apps that mix weight and volume somewhat dubious.

Very nice looking apps. Any chance you will be porting this to Android?

Also, what about adding the ability to track bodyfat and set a goal for that also. It could be shown on the same graph as weight with a scale for bodyfat on the right (weight on the left)

Thank you for this little marvel of design and function. Two requests, if I may:

Please change the UK designation to IMP (Imperial), as this is also used in Canada.

If you could add 2 addtional units in Typography: Pica+Point, Pixel (not really for type, but useful).

I love weightbot, and, in general, love the work you guys do.

One small suggestion: It would be great, in weightbot, to be able to specify the date range for the graphs. I’d love to be able to screencapture an image for the period during which I started a diet, to the present date.

More importantly, what is your next app? You guys are great. How about you know the socks off the competition with a Twitterbot, or a Feedbot that aggregates all feeds from Twitter, FB, RSS, etc into a single UI.

To add to Adam’s comment above, I could see future Bots such as a Contacts/Speed Dialer and also a Voice/Notes Recorder.

Great job, terrific interface. About 20 years ago, I developed Chameleon for the Mac. It did over 200,000,000 conversions, but a lot of them were downright silly, like furlongs per fortnight into AUs per century. My first sale was to someone in Papua New Guinea….had to wonder if the 3.5″ floppy ended up hanging from his earlobe. Best regards, and thanks for a great app.

Weightbot is really nice for keeping track for sure!

One small thing that could be done to really improve it, is a preference for the “Start date” for trend calculations – as it works now it always takes the first data entry in the app, while I want to compare it to an arbitrary date.

Such a “Start date” could also be used for what “Matt Henderson said on August 14th, 2009″ – for graphing.

This is great if you want to see the results from going on a new training regime / diet, but not remove historical data.

I really like the program. Any chance you would be able to create customizable units in the future?

For example, I work in “ksi” and “Msi” a lot, which stand for 1000*psi and 1e6*psi. I’d like to natively work in these.

Hi! I love Convertbot and was so happy to recently find Weightbot! It looks like I can set a target weight and target date (on the App Store screenshot), but how can I set the target date? I haven’t been able to find it…

BIG Needs:

1: Dress size conversion

2: interest rates

3: tipping calculator (how many people and how much %)

4: a semi-custom conversion for Currency

When people exchange money for going away on holiday, there are lots of different rates and commission people get. I usually have to create a custom calculation, EG  1uk pound  = 1.4 euros.

It’s just this one currency option that would be great if you could customized the rate of exchange, and i’m sure it’s the same for everybody else out there who exchanges money. Knowing the exchange rate is good for the stock market but having one custom field to know what your actually money in your wallet is worth based on what you exchanged it would be great for the people in those ‘real life’ situations!

Maybe me explaining this would help and make converterbot the best out there. It ALMOST is!

Feature requests for your consideration: (1) brief note with weight entry (e.g. “Started new fad diet”), could help identify impact of actions on weight; (2) “Share” weight change with community (e.g. Facebook) to foster accountability; (3) instead of 7-day map (too short a timeframe) 30/60/90 day map(s). Thanks for a beautifully simple app I use everyday!

Very much enjoy the app. Can you add acre-feet to the volume selections?

It would also be nice to have flow measures such as gallons per minute or gallons per day converted to acre-feet per year or gallons per month or year or week, etc.

Thanks.

Both Convertbot & Wightbot are great apps!! Love the UI! Convertbot and it works just as advertised, a must have for every iPhone iTouch user.

BUT, in Weightbot I can’t set the TARGET/GOAL DATE. when I try to scroll forward it doesn’t let me. It also doesn’t allow to set the starting date and you can’t turn off the password option.

Any help is appreciated.
