Coming Soon to Pastebot: Music in the Background

When we first decided to develop Pastebot, the biggest problem was that it could not run in the background. Working in the background is fundamental to a clipboard app. How useful could a clipboard app be if you had to launch it after each copy? We decided to move forward with it because we felt it had enough potential features to still be quite useful. Turned out we made the right choice. However, we also hoped that someday Apple would allow multi-tasking in some form so Pastebot could finally work how we truly intended it to. Being able to run in the background has been the biggest feature request from our customers.

Our First iPad App

It’s been a crazy couple of months over at Tapbots. Between potential lawsuits, Tweetie getting acquired by Twitter, and Apple releasing iOS 4 (and the iPhone 4!), we’ve been working on a little bit of everything. But being busy is a good thing. All of our apps are now iOS 4-ready and optimized for the retina display. And what our customers seem to want the most is our upcoming Twitter app. Yes, it’s coming…but not today.

Today is all about a tiny project we’ve been working on for the iPad (and iPhone).

Say Hello to Tweetbot…

Well, sort of. You know that app we’ve been working on for the last 2.5 months? Yes, it was a Twitter client. You’re probably thinking, “Another Twitter client?” Yes, but not any old Twitter client. A damn good one. We truly felt we could make a client that was just as good if not better than the other ones. At least that was the plan. However, there was big news this past week that has put a slight hold on development.

Where are the iPad ‘bots?

The iPad is finally among us and we’ve been getting many inquiries about whether our current apps are being optimized for the iPad or not as well as if there’s any new ‘bots in the works. Being a very small company has its pros, but one of the cons is not being able to do everything we want to at the same time. There are many things planned at Tapbots, but we must stay focused at one task at a time. So here are a few answers to questions that have been sent to us:

Pastebot v1.1

Pastebot v1.1 is now available in the App Store. Here’s a quick overview on what’s new:

  • New Language Translation Filter
  • Ability to select app launch location
  • Ability to create new folder during move
  • Ability to duplicate clips
  • Ability to group and ungroup clips
  • Support/About sections in preferences
  • Enable/disable text links in preferences (disabled by default)
  • Various bug fixes

I wanted to mention that there have been some reshuffling of some of the button icons and menus. We hate making changes like this, but felt it was necessary for the growth of the app.

You also need to update your version of Pastebot Sync. FYI, the new version of Pastebot Sync doesn’t work with Pastebot 1.0x and vice versa. You can grab the new version of the sync app here.

We are now hard at work on app #4 and extremely excited about it. Let us know what you think and don’t forget to leave a review in the app store!
